The True Cost of IOP

How Much Does IOP Cost?

Addiction treatment is the most efficient way to help you regain control over your life and health, and rebuild the foundations of a serene, productive, balanced, and enjoyable lifestyle. Undeniably, recognizing that you – or loved ones battling addiction – need help is the first step to take on a journey toward successful recovery.

But when it comes down to choosing the right treatment program and facing the reality of having to afford it, it is important to find guidance and set the right expectations. At the Massachusetts Center for Addiction, our team has designed an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) created to make your way toward recovery easier and more accessible. Learn more about how we treat addiction and how to finance your treatment below.

What Is An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)? Let’s Cover The Basics

An intensive outpatient program – or IOP – is a type of structured therapy that may represent a great option for some people battling addiction. It consists of individual therapy sessions throughout the week, usually coupled with other forms of therapy like medication-assisted treatment, skill-building workshops, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), group counseling, and twelve-step facilitation solutions.

It is less restrictive than other forms of rehab, like inpatient therapies, and doesn’t involve overnight stays. On the other hand, the frequent therapy sessions of IOP can help you find support throughout your daily life, thus preventing relapse and allowing you to maintain work and family commitments.

Who Is An IOP For?

IOP is designed for those who need more than the occasional therapy session but, at the same time, don’t need round-the-clock care. This program can also be used as a bridge between full-time assistance and independent living, and may also represent a critical step for those looking to reintegrate into society after an inpatient program.

IOPs are usually recommended for those with a strong support system and stable living conditions. A specialist at the Massachusetts Center for Addiction will help you better understand the best option for your needs.

Benefits And Drawbacks Of IOP

IOP treatments may not be suitable for those with unstable living conditions or with severe rehabilitation needs. However, if you are eligible for this type of program, you’ll be able to enjoy a wide range of benefits, including:

What To Look For In An IOP Program

When choosing an IOP program, it is important that you work with a specialist to understand the expected outcomes and treatment options better. You should also investigate any additional costs that may not be obvious at first (i.e., follow-up care), the accreditations of the staff, and the therapies you’ll be able to benefit from. Below, you can better understand what to expect from the IOP offered at the Massachusetts Center For Addiction.

The Massachusetts Center For Addiction Intensive Outpatient Program

Our Intensive Outpatient Program involves three hours of therapy a day, five days a week. You can also take advantage of an extended stay in one of our sober living homes in Massachusetts.

Besides individual therapy, you’ll also be able to benefit from a wide range of strategies and programs designed to support all aspects of your recovery journey. These include:

  • Cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
  • Motivational interviewing
  • Medication management
  • Twelve-step facilitation
  • Patient Education
  • Support groups
  • Gym membership and nutritional counseling

How Much Does An Intensive Outpatient Program Cost?

According to the National Center for Drug Abuse Statistics, the average patient spends around $13,475 on drug rehabilitation. However, not all forms of therapies will be associated with the same costs! Working with your therapist, you’ll be able to find the best option for your needs and budget.

The Average Cost Of IOP

On average, IOPs cost between $5,000 and $13,000 per month. While this may seem like a significant cost, it is important to keep in mind that, compared to inpatient programs, IOPs are extremely efficient and affordable. The average cost of inpatient therapies can be as high as $60,000.

What’s more, this should be considered a critical investment for one’s health, and there is more than one option to access financial help. We’ll look at these below.

What Factors Influence The Cost Of Treatment?

The cost of intensive outpatient programs can vary significantly due to a wide range of factors. These include:

  • Location
  • Length of the program
  • Level of care provided
  • Type of therapies included
  • Type of facilities included

Intensive Outpatient With Insurance vs. Intensive Outpatient Without Insurance

The majority of insurance policies today offer some level of coverage, which makes affording addiction treatment more affordable. Some insurance plans will cover the entire cost, while others will only assist with a portion of the cost and only if your chosen clinic falls within the provider’s network. Be sure to check your policy before getting started.

Financial Assistance: Strategies for More Affordable Care

There are several financial assistance options to make treatment more affordable. Some of these options include payment plans, sliding scale fees, and discounts. Your provider will help you better understand whether you are eligible for assistance due to your income or clinical picture. They may also help you obtain a referral from a doctor. Other alternatives you may consider to fund your treatment plan include crowdfunding, loans, and grants.

Here’s what to expect when partnering with Massachusetts Center for Addiction during your journey toward recovery:

  • 30 days of IOP $10,000 (around $300 a day)
  • Availability of payment plans
  • We accept most commercial insurance plans
  • Insurance covers most or all of treatment
  • We are in-network with Cigna, Aetna, and Tricare
